Mr. H. W. Ravenshaw observes: Some of the curves are very regular indeed, and I cannot help thinking that the shape has something to do with the particular French curves in the possession of the estimating clerk. Other curves wave in a curious manner, and are perhaps taken from the prime costs of machines which are made in sets... (p 169)
