rusted shut
detail, side cutting pliers, found ca 2010, Cambridge
These posts are likely to be scarce for a while. Am in the whelm of preparation of paper on hardware stores in fiction: hardware stores as markers, as points of intersection, as places of gloom and light, retreat and sociality, stupidity, grace. Reflections on retail and narrative genres, and even relationships between them. (How did I ever stumble into this...)
The fiction — that I’ve been gathering and reading over the years — is pretty various: mainstream and literary novels, evangelical and other romance, conduct of life, science and historical fiction, mysteries, young adult and children’s fiction, coming of age fiction... Some of it is listed (with uneven annotation) here.
