eight years before the plunge
The common reason that beginners are loath to enter their pictures in such competition is that they are not aware of what they are missing. In my own case I had been puttering away at the game for eight years before finally deciding to make the plunge. A first prize “right off the bat” almost resulted in heart failure, but I recovered, and with such an appetite for more that there has been no let-up since.
