Consider the case of the wanderer. By understanding his/her life history we may find that personal expression through movement was a common lifestyle attribute of the person. However, institutional life and even home care may define pacing and puttering, fidgeting and fingering as atypical and problematic. In observing perhaps a hundred wanderers in the past fifteen years, I have come to respect some as problem solvers. The motion serves as a coping mechanism. What makes wandering difficult is the risk of a person out of control...
