putterings 637 < 638 > 639 index
Philip Green Wright had earned his way through Tufts College by teaching at a seminary, and with summer work as postmaster, ticket agent, and printer at a hotel in the White Mountains. After his M.A. at Harvard he worked as a civil engineer and a life insurance actuary, coming to Lombard in 1892. He had luck in getting as a life partner Elizabeth Quincy Sewall of St. Paul, Minnesota, also a grandchild of Elizur Wright. She had an appreciation of his work habits, his putterings and experiments. She bore him three sons who went on to careers of rare distinction, Quincy in international law, Sewall in zoology, Theodore in aircraft engineering.
